<p>Read through my inspiration, design process, and lots of info on the perfect yarn I chose, or scroll on down for the <em><strong>free pattern.</strong></em></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8037" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01197.jpg" alt="" width="1366" height="2048" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01197.jpg 1366w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01197-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01197-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01197-768x1151.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01197-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px" /></p>
<h3>The Inspiration + Design</h3>
<p>I love making and wearing ponchos! They are easy to layer over a simple comfortable tank in the warm summer months and wear wonderfully over long sleeve tees in the chillier months. They&#8217;re such versatile accessories that are so worth the time to make.</p>
<p>Last spring I made a poncho called the <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/ava-fringed-poncho/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ava Poncho</a> and it is still among the most popular patterns here on the blog! My favorite part of the <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/ava-fringed-poncho/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ava Poncho</a> is the unique 2 panel construction. With two long, thin rectangles and a couple of seams you end up with this sort of triangular shaped poncho! It&#8217;s so fun to watch it come together, especially considering the panels themselves are an easy, mindless project to work on while watching Netflix.</p>
<p>When I was trying to decide on a stitch pattern, I knew I wanted to work in some simple lace stitches without making anything complicated. I opted for simple chain 1 skip 1 eyelets, combined with some really easy striping (don&#8217;t worry about weaving tons of ends, we will carry the yarn up the side) and the product is a textural poncho that looks detailed and stylish.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8044" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01296.jpg" alt="" width="1366" height="2048" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01296.jpg 1366w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01296-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01296-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01296-768x1151.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DSC01296-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px" /></p>
<h3><strong>The Yarn + Kit</strong></h3>
<p>I tried out <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand&#8217;s LB Collection Superwash Merino yarn</a> for this project and it worked up into a gorgeous, warm-but-not-too-warm poncho! The color selection in this yarn is one of my favorites of all the Lion Brand lines and any color option duo would be gorgeous. The colors in <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Superwash Merino</a> are a bit earthy and very natural looking, while still being vivid and saturated &#8211; my favorite kind of color!</p>
<p>I chose to use <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hemp</a> and <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Antique</a> for a more neutral looking poncho to wear during all seasons. Some of my other favorite colors are <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Peony, Teal, Wisteria</a>, and <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Dijon</a>. If I were to make another poncho in another color, I would pick one of these brighter, more colorful hues and pair it with a neutral like <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Antique</a> or <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Flb%2Dcollection%2Dsuperwash%2Dmerino%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hemp</a>! This way you get a colorful poncho without being too &#8220;loud&#8221; in color.</p>

<p><b>SEAMING</b></p>
<p>With a long piece of spare yarn, thread your tapestry needle.</p>
<p>Place one panel (first panel) lengthwise and the other (second panel) widthwise, right sides facing up. You should have one panel’s short side matching up with another panel’s long side, making a giant “L” shape.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8069" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/WIP-seam-1-1.jpg" alt="" width="1536" height="2048" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/WIP-seam-1-1.jpg 1536w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/WIP-seam-1-1-113x150.jpg 113w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/WIP-seam-1-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/WIP-seam-1-1-768x1024.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px" /></p>
<p>Where the panels meet, use a mattress stitch to seam your panels together, taking care to hide carried yarn in the seam. Sew through tops of the stitches on one panel and through the ends of the rows on the other panel.</p>
<p>To create the second seam, fold first panel in to meet your first seam. Fold your second panel in to meet the end of the other panel. You should have a giant heart shape.</p>
<p>Use a mattress stitch to seam your panels together again long the first panel’s short side and your second panel’s selvedge edge.</p>
<p>Weave all ends.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8070" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/wip-seam-2-1.jpg" alt="" width="1889" height="1512" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/wip-seam-2-1.jpg 1889w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/wip-seam-2-1-150x120.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/wip-seam-2-1-300x240.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/wip-seam-2-1-768x615.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/wip-seam-2-1-1024x820.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1889px) 100vw, 1889px" /></p>
<p><b>NECKLINE</b></p>
<p>Identify the neckline area (smaller opening at the top of your seamed panels). Decide which side will be your front and back.</p>
<p>Join yarn to the center of the neckline back, Ch 2</p>
<p><b>Rnd</b><b> 1: </b><b> </b>Hdc evenly around neckline selvedge edge (working 1 st in end of each row), sl st to join</p>
<p><i>Note: The number of stitches here isn’t as important as making sure you have worked evenly around.</i></p>

<p><b>Rnd</b><b> 3: </b><b> </b>Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join</p>
<p>Finish off, weave all ends.</p>
<p><b>FRINGE</b></p>
<p>Cut pieces of MC yarn about 10 in. long (5 per tassel fringe unit).</p>
<p>Fold 5 pieces in half together. Use your crochet hook to pull the fold of the yarn partially through the edge of any CC row (I like to begin at the front center ”point”. Pull tails of the fringe through the loop created. Tighten and trim tails.</p>

<p>Crochet can be <em>chic</em>, and I&#8217;m here to prove that to you with <strong>the Rancher Poncho</strong> , a free pattern here on the blog!</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve got loads of information on the inspiration, yarn choice, and other details below OR you can scroll on down to the beginner friendly pattern.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-6336 size-full" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9130.jpg" alt="" width="3978" height="5967" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9130.jpg 1365w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9130-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9130-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9130-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9130-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 3978px) 100vw, 3978px" /></p>
<h3><strong>The Design</strong></h3>
<p>If you&#8217;re familiar at all with my blog you may have noticed the last few patterns I&#8217;ve designed have been fairly <em>complex</em> &#8211; like the <strong><a href="https://www.sewrella.com/holidaykal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Holiday Knit Sweater</a></strong> and <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-rainier-sweater-free-pattern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>the Rainier Sweater</strong></a>. It was about time for a really simple, beginner friendly garment tutorial and here she is!</p>
<p>The Rancher Poncho is basically one gigantic rectangle with a hole in the middle for your head to pop through. We use ridged stitches that are decievingly simple &#8211; just work regular half double crochets in the back loop only. It&#8217;s the perfect project to make while you binge watch your favorite Netflix special &#8211; no counting or fancy stitches required!</p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><strong>OTHER SWEATER PATTERNS I LOVE (&amp; you should too)</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5681" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/sweaters-to-make-graphic.jpg" alt="" width="4160" height="2038" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/sweaters-to-make-graphic.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/sweaters-to-make-graphic-150x73.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/sweaters-to-make-graphic-300x147.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/sweaters-to-make-graphic-768x376.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/sweaters-to-make-graphic-1024x502.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 4160px) 100vw, 4160px" /></p>

<h3><strong>The Fit</strong></h3>
<p>The Rancher Poncho is almost as oversized as it gets. Honestly, it <em>feels</em> like you&#8217;re draped in your favorite blanket while it looks like you&#8217;re ready to walk at New York Fashion Week &#8211; seriously I turned so many heads in this piece! &#8230;but that might be because I was in full autumn chill gear in south florida&#8217;s 80 degree weather, ha!</p>
<p>This pattern is easily customizable to make it shorter, longer, wider or thinner. Feel free to adjust as you see fit &#8211; but know that the dimensions given were hand picked to fit most ladies from petit to plus beautifully.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-6339 size-full" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9159.jpg" alt="" width="4011" height="6016" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9159.jpg 1365w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9159-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9159-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9159-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/IMG_9159-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 4011px) 100vw, 4011px" /></p>
<h3><strong>The Yarn</strong></h3>
<p>I chose to use <a href="https://amzn.to/2W0Kczj" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand Heartland yarn</a> for this sweater for a couple of reasons &#8211; I needed a drapey worsted weight yarn in the right earth-inspired colors.</p>
<p>I knew I wanted to go with a Taupe-y yarn for the majority of my poncho with a few black accent stripes along the bottom third of the piece. Finding the right taupe for me was a bit of trial and error &#8211; I wound up narrowing it down to a couple of options within the <a href="https://amzn.to/2DhVoAa" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Heartland line, Grand Canyon and Great Sand Dunes</a>. The former is a cool tone taupe and the later is a warm tone taupe. I like to stay in a warmer color palette (I find they&#8217;re more flattering on my skin tone) so I went with Great Sand Dunes!</p>
<p>There are endless color combinations and I can&#8217;t wait to see what you guys put together for your own Rancher Ponchos! Check out the <a href="https://amzn.to/2W0Kczj" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">entire line of Heartland yarn here</a>.</p>

<p>-The Rancher Poncho is easy to customize:</p>
<ul>
<li>You can increase or decrease the number of chains you begin with to alter the width of your finished poncho.</li>

<p><b>The Crochet Ava Poncho </b>is one of my favorite patterns I&#8217;ve ever designed so I&#8217;m bringing it back in a new fall feature!</p>
<p>You might remember this pattern from <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/ava-fringed-poncho/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">when I first posted it here on the blog</a> earlier this year. This post holds the same pattern, showing you a bit of a different way to style it!</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5772" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9776.jpg" alt="" width="4160" height="6240" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9776.jpg 1365w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9776-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9776-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9776-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9776-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 4160px) 100vw, 4160px" /></p>
<p>This time I wore Ava hiking in the woods of Washington state over a flannel button up with a denim cap and feminine chinos. It was the perfect comfy extra layer to keep me warm when the wind kicked up while still feeling feminine and pretty.</p>

<h3><strong>The Yarn</strong></h3>
<p>I chose to use <a href="http://shrsl.com/u7vt" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand Yarn’s LB Collection Cotton Bamboo</a> – yarn that I haven’t designed with before! It’s such a beautiful, soft, lightweight yarn that feels super luxurious. You know how some lightweight yarns also feel really cheap? Well <a href="http://shrsl.com/u7vt" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">these skeins</a> feel like silky fibers you’d find in an indie yarn shop for about triple the price.</p>
<p><a href="http://shrsl.com/14zri" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand has created a KIT</a> with this yarn and and a printed copy of the pattern in 2 stunning color options of Cotton Bamboo &#8211; <em><strong><a href="http://shrsl.com/14zri" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">shop the kit here!</a></strong></em></p>

<p>Repeat Rows 2-3 until you&#8217;ve reached Row 67 (69, 71, 73)</p>
<p>Each rectangle should measure close to the sizing listed below (remember &#8211; if you have slight variance, it won&#8217;t matter too much in the long run).</p>
<p>XS/S: 14 x 28”<br />
M/L: 15 x 30”<br />
XL/XXL: 16 x 32”<br />

<p><strong>Seaming:</strong></p>
<p>With a long piece of spare yarn, thread your tapestry needle.</p>
<p>Place one panel lengthwise (first panel) and the other widthwise (second panel). You should have one panel&#8217;s short side matching up with another panel&#8217;s long side, making a giant &#8220;L&#8221; shape.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4733" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189.jpg" alt="" width="4592" height="2871" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-150x94.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-768x480.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-1024x640.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 4592px) 100vw, 4592px" /></p>
<p>Use a mattress stitch to seam your panels together. Sew through tops of the stitches on one panel and through the ends of the rows on the other panel.</p>
<p>Weave ends.</p>

<p><strong>Neckline:</strong></p>
<p>Identify the neckline area (smaller opening at the top of your seamed panels). Decide which side will be your front and back.</p>
<p>Join yarn to the center of the neckline back, Ch 2</p>
<p>Round 1: Dc in each st evenly around (I worked 1 stitch into the end of each Row &#8211; you&#8217;ll have a little tightening but that&#8217;s good), sl st to join</p>
<p>Round 2: Ch 2, Dc in each st around, sl st to join</p>
<p>Round 3: Ch 1, Sc in each st around, sl st to join, finish off</p>
<p>Weave ends.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5774" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9793.jpg" alt="" width="4142" height="6213" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9793.jpg 1365w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9793-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9793-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9793-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/IMG_9793-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 4142px) 100vw, 4142px" /></p>
<p><strong>Hemline Edging:</strong></p>
<p>With the right side of the cardigan facing you, join yarn to any corner of the hemline</p>
<p>Round 1: Ch 1, Sc in each st around the entire hemline evenly, work 3 Sc into each corner, sl st to join</p>
<p>Round 2: Ch 1, Sc in each st around, sl st to join, finish off</p>
<p>Weave ends.</p>
<p><strong>Fringe:</strong></p>
<p>Cut pieces of yarn about 7 in. long (6 per tassel fringe unit).</p>
<p>Fold 6 pieces in half together. Use your crochet hook to pull the fold of the yarn partially through any stitch along the hemline edging. Pull tails of the fringe through the loop created. Tighten and trim tails.</p>
<p>Skip 3 sts along hemline edging.</p>
<p>Repeat tassel style fringe units until you&#8217;ve lined the entire hemline of the poncho.</p>
<p>Trim all fringe to be as even as possible.</p>

<p>Crochet garments don&#8217;t get easier or more beginner friendly than this one &#8211; <a href="http://shrsl.com/117ff" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Crochet Twist Swancho</a>!</p>
<p>I set out to make a poncho that could easily transition through all four seasons depending on what&#8217;s layered under it. Once I had this poncho all seamed up and tried on, it reminded me of the feel of a sweater but way more loose and flowy &#8211; <strong>sweater + poncho = SWANCHO</strong>!</p>
<h3><strong>The Design</strong></h3>
<p>I love creating interesting, unique garments with super simple shapes &#8211; just like <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/ava-fringed-poncho/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the Ava Poncho</a> I made earlier this year!</p>
<p>The Twist Swancho is made with just two rectangles, one slightly longer than the other to allow for enough width to twist in the front and drape nicely into a sort of V neckline. Who knew making something so classic was so easy?</p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><strong>SUMMER PATTERNS I LOVE (&amp; you should too)</strong></h3>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5148" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/favorite-crochet-pattern-graphic-SUMMER.jpg" alt="" width="4160" height="2038" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/favorite-crochet-pattern-graphic-SUMMER.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/favorite-crochet-pattern-graphic-SUMMER-150x73.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/favorite-crochet-pattern-graphic-SUMMER-300x147.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/favorite-crochet-pattern-graphic-SUMMER-768x376.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/favorite-crochet-pattern-graphic-SUMMER-1024x502.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 4160px) 100vw, 4160px" /></p>
<p>1. <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/ava-fringed-poncho/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Crochet Ava Poncho</a> / 2. <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-weekender-tunic/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Crochet Weekender Tunic</a> / 3. <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-june-sun-hat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Crochet June Sun Hat</a></p>
<h3><strong>The Fit</strong></h3>
<p>This Swancho is quite oversized, in fact you may want to size down an entire size if you want this swancho to be even somewhat fitted to your shape. I designed this pattern to drape over tanks in the summer and bulky sweaters in the winter, perfect for all seasons but many of my testers preferred a more fitted shape. So if you&#8217;d like your swancho to fit as pictured, follow the pattern below for your normal size but if you&#8217;d like a more fitted sweater, size down!</p>
<h3><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5377" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_3127.jpg" alt="" width="4088" height="6132" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_3127.jpg 1365w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_3127-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_3127-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_3127-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/IMG_3127-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 4088px) 100vw, 4088px" /></h3>
<h3><strong>The Yarn</strong></h3>
<p>I used <a href="https://amzn.to/2DUKq3K" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand&#8217;s new ZZ Twist yarn</a> that was created with crocheters in mind &#8211; hallelujah! It really made this design pop for several reasons. <a href="http://shrsl.com/117ff" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Be sure to grab the kit BY CLICKING HERE to get all the yarn you need in a gorgeous color with a printed copy of the pattern too!</strong></a></p>
<p>This yarn is spun in a Z style twist (thus the name!) as opposed to the traditional S style twist. Basically this yarn is spun in the opposite direction as &#8220;normal&#8221; yarn. This is because it&#8217;s made to work with your crochet hook, not against it. The Z twist is the same direction your hook moves in and out of the stitches in your work! So this yarn works with your crocheting tools similarly to how S twist yarns work with knitting needles. So neat!</p>
<p>And that&#8217;s not even my favorite part of this yarn. I cannot get over the <em>drape</em> of <a href="https://amzn.to/2DUKq3K" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ZZ Twist</a>! When we&#8217;re making clothes, drape is everything. If a garment doesn&#8217;t drape, it might as well be made of burlap. It&#8217;s stiff and uncomfortable and let&#8217;s face it &#8211; a lot of handmade clothes can come out this way. But this yarn solves all of those problems &#8211; seriously! I&#8217;m trying to keep my mind and hands open to other yarns, but I don&#8217;t think I can &#8211; I&#8217;ve found my yarn soulmate and it&#8217;s <a href="https://amzn.to/2DUKq3K" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ZZ Twist</a>!</p>
<p>The colors that this yarn comes in are just as stunning as the drape. They&#8217;re rich and saturated without being wildly vibrant. Even the brighter tones like Green Apple and Coral aren&#8217;t highlighter bright, they&#8217;re rich natural brights. <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1125736&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Fyarn%2Fzz%2Dtwist%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=">Lion Brand</a> really nailed it with this one and this Peacock color is my favorite of the current lineup!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>To sum it up:</strong></p>
<p><em>The Twist Swancho is the dreamy, drapey topper that takes us through all four seasons. It’s sort of a poncho, sort of a sweater, and sort of amazing! It works up from two plain rectangular panels that are sewn together with a twist in front to add simple shaping while maintaining it’s beginner level status. With a slouchy, oversized fit, the Twist Swancho is made to throw on over any outfit – from sundresses to thick winter sweaters.</em></p>

<p>You won&#8217;t believe how easy this pattern comes together &#8211; it&#8217;s made of only 2 large rectangles that you sew together in a surprising way, add some neckline and hemline edging, plus tassel fringe and you&#8217;re done!</p>
<p>Even if you&#8217;re still a crochet beginner, don&#8217;t be afraid. If you can make a scarf or a blanket, you can make this!</p>

<p>I chose to use <a href="http://shrsl.com/u7vt" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand Yarn&#8217;s LB Collection Cotton Bamboo</a> &#8211; yarn that I haven&#8217;t designed with before! It&#8217;s such a beautiful, soft, lightweight yarn that feels super luxurious. You know how some lightweight yarns also feel really cheap? Well <a href="http://shrsl.com/u7vt" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">these skeins</a> feel like silky fibers you&#8217;d find in an indie yarn shop for about triple the price.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s one of the things about the <a href="http://shrsl.com/u7vt" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LB Collection</a> &#8211; it&#8217;s exclusively sold at <a href="http://shrsl.com/u7vt" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LionBrand.com</a> so that LB can offer luxury grade yarns at an affordable price by selling direct to the consumer. <p><strong>Seaming:</strong></p>
<p>With a long piece of spare yarn, thread your tapestry needle.</p>
<p>Place one panel lengthwise (first panel) and the other widthwise (second panel). You should have one panel&#8217;s short side matching up with another panel&#8217;s long side, making a giant &#8220;L&#8221; shape.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4733" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189.jpg" alt="" width="4592" height="2871" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-150x94.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-768x480.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230189-1024x640.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 4592px) 100vw, 4592px" /></p>
<p>Use a mattress stitch to seam your panels together. Sew through tops of the stitches on one panel and through the ends of the rows on the other panel.</p>
<p>Weave ends.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4735" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230195.jpg" alt="" width="4592" height="2943" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230195.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230195-150x96.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230195-300x192.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230195-768x492.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230195-1024x656.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 4592px) 100vw, 4592px" /></p>
<p>To create the second seam, fold first panel in to meet your first seam. Fold your second panel in to meet the end of the other panel. You should have a giant heart shape.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4746" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/fold-graphic-min.jpg" alt="" width="4160" height="2825" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/fold-graphic-min.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/fold-graphic-min-150x102.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/fold-graphic-min-300x204.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/fold-graphic-min-768x522.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/fold-graphic-min-1024x695.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 4160px) 100vw, 4160px" /></p>

<p>Use a mattress stitch to seam your panels together again long the first panel&#8217;s short side and your second panel&#8217;s rough edge.</p>
<p>Weave ends.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4744" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230208.jpg" alt="" width="4592" height="2949" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230208.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230208-150x96.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230208-300x193.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230208-768x493.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/P1230208-1024x658.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 4592px) 100vw, 4592px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4761" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_6554-min.jpg" alt="" width="4083" height="6124" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_6554-min.jpg 1365w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_6554-min-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_6554-min-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_6554-min-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_6554-min-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 4083px) 100vw, 4083px" /></p>
