My latest fuzzy project for your home is here – the Crochet Fluffy Fur Pillows, a free pattern for any size!

This project is very beginner friendly with a totally stunning result. Read on below about the inspiration and yarn details, or scroll on down for the free pattern.

The Inspiration + Design

When I recently bought a new sofa, I also bought a fluffy white fur pillow – it’s so soft and stylish looking! So when Lion Brand Yarn released a fur look-alike yarn I knew I wanted to try to recreate the pillow I bought in crochet.

I chose to stick with natural looking colors and design this pattern to be as simple as could be – no fussy counting or fancy stitches here! Easy single crochets that produce a stunning “where did you get that?!” result.

The Yarn

When Lion Brand yarn gave me a super secret preview of a new yarn of theirs I squealed with excitement. The yarn I used is called Go For Faux and this look-alike fur yarn is the most inventive thing to come out of the yarn industry in a long time. It’s super fluffy, comes in great natural and pastel color options – I just want to cover my whole house in it!

I will tell you, Go For Faux does have a couple of drawbacks (that’s right I said it!). Namely, it’s hard to see your stitches because of all the fluff. Also depending on what colorway you’re working with, the shedding is pretty heavy while you’re working. I’ve heard from a trusted Lion Brand source that running your finished project through the dryer on a low heat setting will help shake off excess fluff so that it doesn’t keep shedding while in use!

I love the innovative concept and modern look of this yarn enough to weather the shedding storm and feel for my stitches instead of look for them. Everyone is different and some may not love this different type of yarn but I urge you to try it and see how you feel!

Click HERE to check out this gorgeous new yarn (you won’t believe all the color options!)

Materials:

–Lion Brand Go For Faux yarn (Weight: 6/Super Bulky – 3.5oz, 64 yds)

Abbreviations (US terms):

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

sl st – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch(es)

t – turn

Skill Level:

Level 1 – Beginner

Pattern Notes

-Pictured are two pillows. The written pattern below instructs you to make the larger Pomeranian colored 20″ pillow. My smaller pillow is 14″ x 12″ and used 2 balls of Go For Faux yarn in Baked Alaska with extra Pomeranian yarn scraps for the trim. (See notes below on adjusting this pattern to fit any pillow.)

-Sizing is adjustable to fit any square or rectangular pillow form, calculate gauge to fit your pillow form.

-Adjust number of chains to fit width of pillow form, adjust number of rows to fit length of pillow form.

1.5 sts per 1” width, 1 row per 1” length

-Working with Go For Faux yarn can be difficult, so keep count of your stitches and feel for the tops of your stitches when they’re hard to visualize. Working stitches loosely will help you find the next stitch. You may also consider placing large stitch markers in the 1st, 15th, and last stitches of the row to help you keep track.

Hi there! I’m Sierra from Sweet Everly B. Iced coffee, good wine, and textured knits are a few of my many weaknesses.

I adore the classic texture of knitting, but I’m better with 1 hook than 2 needles.

Try to look at your weakness and convert it into your strength. That’s success.- Zig Zigler

I decided to turn my weakness, knitting, into a strength. Designing knit look crochet patterns. I’m still searching for ways to turn my love for wine and coffee into strengths. For now, I’ll share this knit look crochet pillow pattern with you.

The knit look crochet pillow is where my two loves meet. A crochet pattern that meets your desire for all the knit texture loveliness, without picking up a pair of needles.

All you need is a crochet hook, a pillow form, and whatever yarn you have in your stash.

The pillow is crocheted solely with slip stitches. This is what creates the squishy knit look texture. The slip stitch is a short stitch that is slow to grow.

Here are a few tips I’ve learned along the way.

-Use a hook that’s 1 or 2 sizes larger than what is recommended for your yarn. If your work starts to curl up that means your tension is too tight. Go up another hook size.

-Crochet loosely. The slip stitch is a tight stitch. It will be easier to insert your hook into the next stitch if your tension is loose.

-Count your stitches. This may seem obvious, but it’s easy to miss a stitch at the end of your rows.

The fun thing about this crochet tutorial is you can use any yarn from your stash and any size pillow form you’d like. I prefer #5 bulky or #6 super bulky weight yarn. If you want to use a worsted weight or lighter yarn be prepared for the extra time it will take, or hold 2 strands of yarn together.

To choose the correct hook, look at the recommended hook size for your yarn. Choose a hook that’s 1 to 2 sizes larger.

Abbreviations:

sl st = slip stitch

(BLO) = back loop only

mc = main color yarn (Grey Marble)

cc = contrast color yarn (Fisherman)

ch = chain

Notes:

-Your beginning chain will shrink. Start with a beginning chain 5”-6” longer than your pillow form. As you start working the slip stitches your piece will begin to shrink. I found after 6-8 rows the piece evened out and the final width stayed the same for the rest of the pattern.

-At the beginning of each row you will see “mc or cc”. Work the entire row in that yarn color.

-After row 1, the rest of the pattern is worked in the back loops only.

-When changing yarn colors, you can carry the yarn along the side without cutting the yarn. This will create “yarn floats” along the edges of your pillow case. Don’t worry, they will be on the inside of the pillow case when we sew it all together.

Pattern:

Using the mc yarn, crochet a chain 5”-6” longer than the width of your pillow form. Write down the number of chains so you can have the same size front and back panels.

Row 1: mc, sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook, sl st in each ch across, turn.

Rows 2-6: (mc) ch 1, (BLO) sl st in each st across, turn.

Rows 7-8: (cc) ch 1, (BLO) sl st in each st across, turn.

Repeat rows 2-8 until your front panel is the same height as your pillow form.

Repeat the above steps to make the back panel. Start with the same number beginning chain and end with the same number of rows.

Sewing It All Together

Lay the front and back panels on top of each other, right sides facing each other. Use your favorite seaming method to hand sew 3 of the sides together. I used the whip stitch.

Along the edges of the pillow you will have the yarn floats from changing yarn colors. Make sure these are pushed back away from your seam. When you turn the pillow cover inside out, the right sides of the pillow case will be facing out and the floats of yarn will be hidden on the inside.

After turning the pillow right side out, add the pillow form. Hand sew the final side shut and sew in the ends.

Do you watch the HGTV show Fixer Upper?

If you don’t, leave this post and go watch an episode. I promise you’ll fall in love with Chip & Joanna in just one episode. They’re that awesome.

Their brand is called Magnolia (homes, bakery, market, etc). Online, they have a store called Magnolia Market. There you’ll find all of Joanna’s favorite throws, vases, jewelry, and PILLOWS.

I was browsing the Magnolia Market website when I came upon this…

HELLO BEAUTIFUL!

I instantly thought, I have to crochet a version of that. Like now.

I’d been wracking my brain lately with what to make with the new Lion Brand New Basic 175 yarn (it’s seriously like a cloudy squishy ball of yummy yarn) and I could see it in my head – a squishy bobble pillow just like the Magnolia one!

Hi all, and Happy (almost) Love Day!

That’s what we call Valentine’s Day around my house (although, I’m blessed and – everyday is love day).

BUT!

This is an extra special day because my family just loves to love each other, and every year we try to find new ways to express that love and excitement.

I proclaim this the year of the love note! Something my fiance and I are trying to do more is read – we both enjoy a great book, but have seldom found time to crack a cover in the last few busy years. So this year I’m encouraging us to write more too!

And who better to write to, than each other?

Thus… the Love Note Pocket Pillow! (I had to shove crochet into this somehow, y’all. Soon my house and everything in it will be made of yarn. Look for my special on HGTV.)

I made this little pillow with a special little pocket for tucking notes into. It’s the perfect shade of rose for V-Day – but let’s be real: I never get around to tidying up so this pillow has found its happy new home on my sofa and will probably be there forever.

Fine with me though, I get to smother my family with written proclamations of love YEAR ROUND! Wahoo!

I used a very special yarn for this project too – I wanted this pillow to be extra squishy and cuddly, so I made it with Wool And The Gang Crazy Sexy Wool! Have you guys heard of Wool And The Gang (WATG)? They are an amazing yarn and design company who are working to bring back knitting and crochet as a means of sustainable clothing production. Their site says: “We’ve all done it, purchased low quality, cheap fast fashion made in factories abroad and wondered ‘how do they make it so cheap?’ The reality is not good. There has to be a better way to produce, one that allows us to wear with pride and sleep soundly. So Wool and the Gang was born — pioneering fashion production that’s made in a sustainable way, bringing back knitting as a viable means of production for generations to come.”

NOW THAT’S A MESSAGE I CAN GET BEHIND.

I’m working toward being a more sustainable consumer myself, despite my all-too-frequent stock up on leggings made in Thailand (I’m really trying to stop you guys, anybody know a sustainable leggings company??).

And now WATG is helping keep my yarn stash a bit more green. Yes, green as in the color but also GREEN. Like eco-friendly. Oh, forget it.

So go shop some of their amazing yarns and make something awesome! Also, shout out to the gang for supplying this Crazy Sexy Wool for my pillow!

-2 Skeins Crazy Sexy Wool from Wool and the Gang in Cameo Rose

-Size N/P 10mm crochet hook

-Large eye tapestry needle

*For the entirety of this project don’t join rounds, simply place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round and move it with each round

Top bumps of the heart:
*make 2
Make a magic ring, 6 Sc inside ring (6)
Round 2: 2 Sc in each around (12)
Round 3: 2 Sc in first, Sc in next, repeat around (18)
Round 4: 2 Sc in first, Sc in next 2, repeat around (24)
Rounds 5-8: Sc in each around (24)
– After working first bump of the heart, break yarn, finish off and start second bump
– After working Round 8 of the second bump, don’t finish off
Round 9: Join to the next st after you finished off on the first bump of the heart with a Sc, Sc in each st around that bump and then in each st around the second bump (36)
– Now the bumps are joined and you continue working around the body of the heart

Body of the heart:
Round 10: Sc next 11, Sc decrease, Sc next 22, Sc decrease, Sc next 11 (46)
Round 15: Sc next 11, Sc decrease, Sc next 14, Sc decrease, Sc next 11 (36)
Round 16: Sc next 11, Sc decrease, Sc next 12, Sc decrease, Sc next 11 (34)
Round 17: Sc next 11, Sc decrease, Sc next 10, Sc decrease, Sc next 11 (32)
Round 18: Sc decrease, Sc next 2, repeat around, Sc in last (25)
Round 19: Sc in each around (25)
– Stuff until firm with polyfil stuffing & continue stuffing after each round
Round 20: Sc decrease, Sc, repeat around, Sc in last (17)
Round 21: Sc in each around (17)
Round 22: Sc decrease around, Sc, repeat around, Sc in last (11)
Round 23: Sc in each around, finish off leaving a long tail for sewing (11)
– Thread tail on a tapestry needle, finish stuffing and sew up the bottom of the pillow (see video above to see my trick!)
– With a spare piece of yarn, sew with a whip stitch between bumps to sew up gap from joining during Round 9, weave ends

Pocket:
– Follow the Easy Crochet Heart in 3 Sizes Pattern – make the medium size heart
– Sew only the bottom half of the heart to the center front of the pillow

Don’t forget to PIN this pattern to your Pinterest boards!

Hey you!

I’d like to begin this post by giving you all a little prengancy BUMPdate! For those of you that follow my blog (have I thanked you lately? – if not, THANKYOU) you may remember that I’m pregnant with my first baby! Well after a long road, this not so little bean is about ready to make his debut (eek!).

All of that is to say — this will be my last post/tutorial/pattern/update for a little while. I hope to be back at it (slowly but surely) in a couple of weeks – if nothing more than to keep from going stir crazy while I recover. This mama can’t stop crocheting! Either way, I appreciate your patience and support during this transition into mommyhood.

And don’t worry, I’ll post some squishy baby photos to tide you over until the next project. Promise.

Back to why we are really here – this foxy cross stitch right here!!

(^Yes that’s the baby’s crib and no the pillow won’t be in there while the peanut is resting – but don’t it look ding dang cute next to those owls and teepees?)

I have both a graph cross stitch pattern and in-depth video tutorial to help you with this technique but it is really quite simple – cross stitch using a tapestry needle over your single crochet stitches!

Now I’d like to offer a little written explanation – I am NOT a cross stitcher. Yes I have taken a crack at the Aida cloth and thread before but I am no pro. Like not even a little. Not even a smidge. I’m still in the beginner poking myself with the needle stage of cross stitching. Send help.

So because of that, I’ve chosen to try out cross stitch on a crochet pillow because guess what? THE BACK IS HIDDEN. Unlike cross stitching on a crochet blanket or scarf, the back of my stitched fabric (the crocheted front of my pillow) will never see the light of day. Only the pillow form and those who watch the video below will ever know what an utter mess the back of that fox is.

And guess what else? It doesn’t matter! That’s right, I said it. It doesn’t matter. For all of those die hard cross stitchers out there, I’m sorry if I’m breaking your hearts. I truly am. I know that much pride is taken in having a clean back to your cross stitch masterpieces. My great grandmother was an amazing cross stitcher and I am lucky enough to have some of her pieces. And let me tell you — the backs are as clean and beautiful as the fronts. I don’t know how she did it.

But here in crochetland, we take victories as they come and a cute fox stitched on the front of a pillow is a victory in my book! I’m not hung up on what the back looks like. Again, I’m no pro.

Anywho.

If you missed my last pattern, the Basic Crochet Pillow, get going on that – it is the perfect base to cross stitch any simple design onto! Just be sure that if you follow this technique on my pillow pattern (something other than my fox design) the cross stitch pattern is 27 x 34 or smaller as that’s how many stitches are on this pillow, thus how many “boxes” you have to work with on a cross stitch pattern.

Make sense?

Without further ado, here is the handy video tutorial!

PATTERN:

Materials:
-Worsted weight yarn (I used Vanna’s Choice in terracotta, white and a small amount of black)

-Large tapestry needle

Before your pillow is finished (either before you bind the front to the back or after you’ve bound 3 sides & 1 side is left open like a pocket) thread your large tapestry needle with a double strand of yarn.

Cross stitch your design. Be sure to see my video above on this! Here’s mine:

Weave in your ends on the back side as you go, stuff your pillow with the pillow form and stitch up that last side (just as we did with the Basic Crochet Pillow in THIS tutorial)

You’re all done!

Don’t forget to PIN this project to your Pinterest boards!

Thanks so much for stitching with me – find something to cross stitch soon and send me photos, I’d love to see what you make! I’ll see you all in a few weeks!

For now, lets make this simple crochet pillow!

Here’s the handy video tutorial too!

PATTERN:

Get the ad-free, large print, printable PDF pattern from Etsy HERE.

Add this pattern to your Ravelry queue HERE.

Materials:
-Worsted weight yarn (I used 2 skeins of Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Oatmeal)

-Size N/P crochet hook

-Pillow Form 14in. by 14in.

-Larger tapestry needle

Begin with a double strand of yarn (crochet using strands from both skeins of yarn at the same time), Ch 28

Row 1: Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and in each st across (27 sts), Ch 1, turn

Rows 2-34: Sc in each st across, Ch 1, turn (27 sts)

Finish off, weave ends

You’ve now made one side of your pillow cover. Repeat the entire above pattern to make the other side of your pillow cover. Do not finish off your yarn on the second side.

Sc the front and back (two sides) together around the perimeter of the pillow covers, working 3 Scs in each corner. I worked around the first 3 sides (looks like a large pocket at this point) before inserting my pillow form and Sc down that fourth side.

The video tutorial above should clear up any confusion you have on stitching together your pillow cover!

Finish off, and weave ends.
