Love Note Crochet Pocket Pillow

January 26, 2017 by Ashleigh

Hi all, and Happy (almost) Love Day!

That’s what we call Valentine’s Day around my house (although, I’m blessed and – everyday is love day).

BUT!

This is an extra special day because my family just loves to love each other, and every year we try to find new ways to express that love and excitement.

I proclaim this the year of the love note! Something my fiance and I are trying to do more is read – we both enjoy a great book, but have seldom found time to crack a cover in the last few busy years. So this year I’m encouraging us to write more too!

And who better to write to, than each other?

Thus… the Love Note Pocket Pillow! (I had to shove crochet into this somehow, y’all. Soon my house and everything in it will be made of yarn. Look for my special on HGTV.)

I made this little pillow with a special little pocket for tucking notes into. It’s the perfect shade of rose for V-Day – but let’s be real: I never get around to tidying up so this pillow has found its happy new home on my sofa and will probably be there forever.

Fine with me though, I get to smother my family with written proclamations of love YEAR ROUND! Wahoo!

I used a very special yarn for this project too – I wanted this pillow to be extra squishy and cuddly, so I made it with Wool And The Gang Crazy Sexy Wool! Have you guys heard of Wool And The Gang (WATG)? They are an amazing yarn and design company who are working to bring back knitting and crochet as a means of sustainable clothing production. Their site says: “We’ve all done it, purchased low quality, cheap fast fashion made in factories abroad and wondered ‘how do they make it so cheap?’ The reality is not good. There has to be a better way to produce, one that allows us to wear with pride and sleep soundly. So Wool and the Gang was born — pioneering fashion production that’s made in a sustainable way, bringing back knitting as a viable means of production for generations to come.”

NOW THAT’S A MESSAGE I CAN GET BEHIND.

I’m working toward being a more sustainable consumer myself, despite my all-too-frequent stock up on leggings made in Thailand (I’m really trying to stop you guys, anybody know a sustainable leggings company??).

And now WATG is helping keep my yarn stash a bit more green. Yes, green as in the color but also GREEN. Like eco-friendly. Oh, forget it.

So go shop some of their amazing yarns and make something awesome! Also, shout out to the gang for supplying this Crazy Sexy Wool for my pillow!

I also have a handy video tutorial for you, yay!

Rounds 5-8: Sc in each around (24)
– After working first bump of the heart, break yarn, finish off and start second bump
– After working Round 8 of the second bump, don’t finish off
Round 9: Join to the next st after you finished off on the first bump of the heart with a Sc, Sc in each st around that bump and then in each st around the second bump (36)
– Now the bumps are joined and you continue working around the body of the heart

Body of the heart:

Round 21: Sc in each around (17)
Round 22: Sc decrease around, Sc, repeat around, Sc in last (11)
Round 23: Sc in each around, finish off leaving a long tail for sewing (11)
– Thread tail on a tapestry needle, finish stuffing and sew up the bottom of the pillow (see video above to see my trick!)
– With a spare piece of yarn, sew with a whip stitch between bumps to sew up gap from joining during Round 9, weave ends

Pocket:
– Follow the Easy Crochet Heart in 3 Sizes Pattern – make the medium size heart
– Sew only the bottom half of the heart to the center front of the pillow
