It’s been a while since I’ve made any baby things so without further ado, the Crochet Little Lamb Lovey!
You may remember the Little Crochet Lamb and Crochet Baby Bear Lovey I made a while ago, and while my son Parker loves them – they’re getting worn out. So I’ve teamed up with my friends at JOANN to bring you a super cuddly mashup of the two – a little lamb lovey!
I made this squishy friend to be just a bit oversized, measuring 15 in. tall from the top of his fluff to the end of the security blanket. It’s the perfect size to grow with babies as they enter toddlerhood! My little guy Parker has just turned two, so he’s really starting to develop fond feelings for his stuffed animal toys and it’s so sweet to see him so affectionate with them. This slightly larger lamb is the perfect size to go everywhere with him!

I don’t make a ton of amigurumi (the Japanese style of crocheting in 3D to create figures) but when I do, I like to get creative! I decided to use some unconventional yarns for this project to give an extra level of squishy softness. If our babies are going to cuddle these things, we want them to be super soft, right?!
I grabbed all my supplies from JOANN and had such a hard time choosing what to work with, so many great options! I wound up using Lion Brand’s Feels Like Butta yarn for the white portion – it’s a chainette style yarn that offers great stitch definition and buttery smoothness. Then I went with Lion Brand’s Touch of Alpaca in oxford grey for the face and accents. It’s got a fuzzier texture with more halo while still being uber soft. I’m really pleased with the result and can’t wait to see which yarns you choose from JOANN!
JOANN also had all the other materials I needed for this project, like the safety eyes (in the doll making section) and polyfil stuffing (in the quilt batting area). It’s so convenient shopping at one beautiful store for every last thing I need!
This little lamb is made up of a head, made in all one piece without parts to sew together, a couple of ears and arms sewn on, and a 5 pointed star shaped security blanket. Parker already won’t let his out of his sight, so make sure those ends are weaved and safety eyes are secured tightly before giving to baby!
Lion Brand Yarn has also made this pattern into a kit that includes all the yarn you need plus a printed copy of the entire patter for under $10! Grab your kit by clicking here.

Assembly
With a long piece of spare grey Touch of Alpaca yarn, attach head to security blanket.
I began by identifying where the head was centered on the blanket, around Rows 6-8 of the head. Make sure the face is straight, and start stitching.
I like to sew up through the wrong side of the security blanket around Round 1 with a running stitch, sewing through any secure stitches I can find on the head, always rechecking my positioning.
Once you’ve stitched around Round 1 of the security blanket, expand the stitching to Round 2. Repeat the same process working through each stitch in Round 2 of the security blanket and affixing it to the head. Always check the placement as you go.
Weave ends securely.
To attach the arms, nestle them right up to where the head meets the security blanket, Round 3. Sew with a whip stitch to Round 3 of the security blanket.
Weave ends securely.

What cuties they both are!! Thank you for sharing your son and his cuddly lamb with us.

Thank you for sharing this adorable pattern! I’m half way done, but the blanket is not laying flat, though it looks in the picture like yours does. The skip two seems to be making it want to come in at the edges. Any thoughts or advice?
Ashleigh says
Mine doesn’t lie completely flat, it’s kind of a tent shape that I flattened out more by steaming once the project was done 🙂
Brittney says
First off let me say I am in love with your little loveys!!! I stumbled across this pattern while trying to find simple crochet baby blanket tutorials (which I just completed your easy crochet baby blanket for a teacher friend of mine who is about to have her baby). I logically understand all the steps as typed out but am more of a visual learner. Would you consider making a video showing your process as you did with the baby blanket?
Ashleigh says
I would love to, but the amigurumi portion of the project is really difficult to film a video tutorial for. Being that every single row is unique, the video would be quite long and very labor intensive to make. I may make a video tutorial for the security blanket portion in the future as that’s much more “video friendly”!
