DIY Yarn Scrap Earrings – 3 ways!

May 12, 2018 by Ashleigh

Do you have tons of yarn scraps lying around with no use for them? You should make some DIY Yarn Scrap Earrings!

I’ve made 3 different styles of on-trend, statement earrings using (you guessed it) yarn! They utilize pom fluffy pom poms that aren’t too overwhelming or heavy on the ear. They add a bit of whimsical youth and vibrancy to even the most basic outfits. They’re super affordable to make when you shop at JOANN for all the materials you need.

You may already have plenty of yarn scraps hanging around from various crochet and knitting projects, but in case you don’t – I recommend picking up a skein of your favorite color yarn in my beloved needle arts section of JOANN  and making a ton of these babies. You could probably get a dozen pairs from a 100g skein of worsted weight yarn!

PATTERNS I LOVE (& you should too)

I used yarn I had leftover from this project that didn’t have a spoken-for use (isn’t that always the case? We grab a skein or two extra then it hangs around forever). I grabbed all the other jewelry making supplies I needed at my favorite little slice of crafting heaven – my local JOANN store. Does anybody else walk into JOANN and just feel relaxed all over? No other store feels quite like a hug, like JOANN does. It’s as comforting as warm milk before bedtime. Just sayin’.

I picked up everything I needed (and a few extra goodies, because I couldn’t resist) and headed home to make my earrings! I can’t wait to wear them all summer long, they’ll pair so nicely with some of my crocheted projects like the Ava Fringed Poncho and the Wishing Well Wrap.

I’ve got a handy video tutorial for you too, just because I love making your lives easy!

Pin Pom Dangles

Use your Clover Pom Pom Maker to make one of the larger pom poms, leaving your tails long.

Thread the tails of your pom through the end of an ear wire and knot to secure. Trim tails.

Use your needle nose pliers to bend the other end of your ear wire into a small loop.

Attach top of ear wire to the jump ring on an earring post.

Use your pliers to pry the post off of your enamel pin. Dab a bit of E6000 glue on the back of the pin, place earring post on the glue and hold to set in place for a few minutes. Let dry for several hours or overnight.

These are such a great idea, Ashleigh! Earrings are such a great summer idea, especially when they’re quick and easy. I just published an earrings pattern on my blog as well! 🙂
