Crochet Country Pumpkins

October 4, 2019 by Ashleigh

The latest free pattern here on the blog – Crochet Country Pumpkins!

Read below about the inspiration, the perfect yarn I chose, and this beautiful stitch or scroll on down for the free pattern, video and photo tutorial.

The Inspiration + Design

These tabletop pumpkins are the perfect project to get you in the autumn mood! Sprinkle them anywhere around your house – yes, anywhere! I placed a few by the fireplace, on my dining room table, even some outside for decor on the porch. But let me tell ya, don’t stop there. There is no such thing as too many pumpkins.

That being said, the internet may not want another crochet pumpkin, but my home sure needed them! They turned out so darn cute that it felt wrong to keep the pattern all to myself. So here is my slice of homemade pumpkin heaven to share with the world. I hope you love these squishy little cuties as much as I do!

The Yarn

The two priorities I had for this project were a fun, fall color scheme and something that would showcase texture well (hint: squiggles!). While I was browsing the yarn aisle, this orange-y red fuzzy beauty caught my eye and I knew it was the one. And right next to it was the perfect cream! Truly, a match made in heaven. *swoon* A quick trip to the craft store across the street to hunt down just the right shade to complete my trio. Low and behold, I found the most amazing golden yellow!

I also really liked the idea of using Homespun because it’s an underdog yarn. It’s often overlooked due to the boucle style twist. That squiggley appearance the strand has offers a super rustic, wonderfully homemade feel to your project, without your stitches getting completely lost. Which is exactly what we want here!

I chose to make a second set with Wool-Ease Thick & Quick for some variety. As always, this tried and true yarn didn’t disappoint (especially with the new colors that just came out!). It gave a clean and defined look while still feeling homey. Win!

Whatever yarn you decide to work with, you’ll have some stunning new home decor for the season!

NOTES

-The pattern is written in three sizes listed separately here – small, medium, and large.

-Country Pumpkins pictured are worked in either Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn or Homespun yarn. The pattern reads “Ch 14 (20)” whereas “Ch 14” (or the first number listed) represents the stitch count for Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn and “Ch 20” (or the second number listed) represents the stitch count for Homespun yarn.

-One ball of either yarn yields 2 small pumpkins, 1 small & 1 medium pumpkin, 1 medium pumpkin, or 1 large pumpkin

-Once you’ve made a pumpkin or two and understand the construction feel free to play around with rectangle size to make custom pumpkins!

-Rectangle measurements within the pattern are rough estimates – if your measurements are close but not exact, your pumpkin will still come together.

-Stitch counts within <> are final stitch counts for the row.
