<h2>A cute little crochet mint leaf!</h2>
<p>I&#8217;ve been loving gardening lately, especially after being at home so much this year. I&#8217;ve started growing four different kinds of mint plants &#8211; peppermint, chocolate mint, sweet mint and spearmint!</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been brewing lots of mint tea (recipe below!) with the cuttings from my plants and it inspired me to crochet some little mint leaves! I couldn&#8217;t find a pattern for any so I decided to make one up.</p>
<h2>Uses for a crochet mint leaf</h2>
<p>Little crochet accents like this are great for adding to larger projects. This leaf could be used alongside crocheted flowers for home decor projects like <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/category/home-decor/wreath/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">wreathes</a> and <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/category/home-decor/table-top/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">tabletop arrangements</a> or it could be sewn next to a <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/quick-easy-crochet-roses/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">crochet rose</a> on a <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/parker-crochet-baby-hat-free-pattern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">baby hat</a>!</p>
<p>The possibilities are endless and patterns like this crochet mint leaf allow you to get creative.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/795219728/crochet-pattern-mint-leaf-applique?ref=listing_published_alert"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9360" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/tablet-ad-mint-leaf.jpg" alt="" width="1868" height="1200" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/tablet-ad-mint-leaf.jpg 1868w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/tablet-ad-mint-leaf-300x193.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/tablet-ad-mint-leaf-1024x658.jpg 1024w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/tablet-ad-mint-leaf-150x96.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/tablet-ad-mint-leaf-768x493.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/tablet-ad-mint-leaf-1536x987.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1868px) 100vw, 1868px" /></a></p>
<h2><strong>The Yarn</strong></h2>
<p>I used some scrap green yarn I had hanging around &#8211; one that&#8217;s my own <a href="https://handmadehomefibers.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">hand dyed yarn</a> in a color from last fall called Lodge and the other is a bit of <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Fheartland%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand Heartland</a> in the color <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1026079&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Fheartland%2Dyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kings Canyon</a>. You could use any yarn to make this crochet mint leaf, I would just reduce the hook size by two or three sizes from what the yarn label recommends to make sure your leaf is stiff enough to hold its shape.</p>

<p>Read below about the inspiration, the perfect yarn I chose, and this beautiful stitch or scroll on down for the <em><strong>free pattern, video and photo tutorial.</strong></em></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-9229 size-full" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08683.jpg" alt="Crochet coasters with easy thermal stitch" width="2048" height="1366" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08683.jpg 2048w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08683-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08683-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08683-150x100.jpg 150w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08683-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08683-1536x1025.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></p>
<h2>Crochet Coasters that are perfect for every table!</h2>
<p>I recently discovered a stitch called <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-thermal-stitch-tutorial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the thermal stitch</a> and I&#8217;m in love! In playing with it I figured out an easy way to crochet this stitch simply and easily &#8211; check out the video tutorial <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-thermal-stitch-tutorial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>! I loved the texture and thickness of the stitch and immediately wanted to figure out a way to bring this woven look into my home with it&#8217;s own pattern.</p>
<p>We all have that end table or coffee table that we set our coffee, tea, lemonade, (or if we&#8217;re being responsible adults) water down on right? My favorite end table has a glass top and I can&#8217;t stand when a glass sweats and makes a ring of moisture on the table, yuck! NOT TO MENTION IF A MUG WERE TO SCRATCH MY GORGEOUS WEST ELM END TABLE. Good grief, that stresses me out just thinking about it.</p>
<p>So when I thought about how to bring <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-thermal-stitch-tutorial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the thermal stitch</a> to life and what my home could use &#8211; a crochet coaster pattern felt just right!</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-9235 size-full" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08714.jpg" alt="easy crochet coasters that are thick and stylish" width="1366" height="2048" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08714.jpg 1366w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08714-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08714-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08714-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08714-768x1151.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08714-1025x1536.jpg 1025w" sizes="(max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px" /></p>
<h2>Crochet Coasters make the best gifts</h2>
<p>These crochet coasters make great holiday or hostess gifts (they take about 20 minutes per coaster to make!) &#8211; I&#8217;ll be giving sets of these along with my favorite tea tied up with a fluffy piece of scrap yarn. Gift giving season never looked so good &#8211; or was so utilitarian!</p>
<p>Think of what a happy neighbor gift that would make!</p>

<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-9237 size-full" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08729.jpg" alt="simple beginner friendly crochet coasters" width="1366" height="2048" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08729.jpg 1366w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08729-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08729-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08729-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08729-768x1151.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/DSC08729-1025x1536.jpg 1025w" sizes="(max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px" /></p>
<h3><strong>The Yarn</strong></h3>
<p>I had quite a few skeins of <a href="http://shrsl.com/1tf72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand&#8217;s new cotton blend yarn Re-Up</a> lying around the house and I loved them for these crochet coasters. The color lineup has some great <a href="http://shrsl.com/1tf72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">neutrals</a> to go with my home decor &#8211; that rustic grey has a bit of heather to it and is so pretty in person!</p>
<p>I held two strands of yarn together for this pattern to make the crochet coasters EVEN thicker &#8211; I love the texure it gives! I held together two strands of the Ecru color but you could hold together a strand each of two different colors to get a marled effect. That&#8217;s actually what I did with my <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/double-thick-crochet-potholders-free-pattern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">crochet potholders pattern</a> that matches this set and they turned out gorgeous!</p>
<p>I highly recommend using cotton yarn for this pattern &#8211; <a href="http://shrsl.com/1tf72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Re-Up</a> is a wonderful option due to the color choice and the price point ($1.99 per skein, 2 skeins make 4 crochet coasters!) but other cotton yarns would work too. Just make sure to stay away from acrylic or primarily polyester yarns to be sure hot beverages don&#8217;t melt the fibers. Cotton also performs better than other fibers when wet should you encounter a spill!</p>

<h2>Crochet Potholders that are perfect for every kitchen!</h2>
<p>After designing a WHOLE bunch of wearable pieces over the last couple of years I&#8217;ve been itching to work on some smaller projects as a creative palate cleanse. My little family also recently moved into a new house with a big gorgeous kitchen that was desperately lacking some warmth and texture. I love cozy spaces with layers of decor and this kitchen was looking a little&#8230; hallow.</p>
<p>So when I thought about how to bring <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-thermal-stitch-tutorial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the thermal stitch</a> to life and what my home could use &#8211; a crochet potholder felt just right!</p>

<h2>Crochet Potholders make the best gifts</h2>
<p>These crochet potholders make great holiday or hostess gifts (they take about an hour to whip up!) &#8211; I&#8217;ll be giving sets of these along with my favorite cookbook tied up with a fluffy piece of scrap yarn. Gift giving season never looked so good &#8211; or was so utilitarian!</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter wp-image-8420 size-full" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/IMG_3336.jpg" alt="Crochet potholders make a great gift when paired with a good cookbook." width="1365" height="2048" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/IMG_3336.jpg 1365w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/IMG_3336-100x150.jpg 100w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/IMG_3336-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/IMG_3336-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/IMG_3336-683x1024.jpg 683w" sizes="(max-width: 1365px) 100vw, 1365px" /></p>
<h3><strong>The Yarn</strong></h3>
<p>I had quite a few skeins of <a href="http://shrsl.com/1tf72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand&#8217;s new cotton blend yarn Re-Up</a> lying around the house and I loved them for these crochet potholders. The color lineup has some great <a href="http://shrsl.com/1tf72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">neutrals</a> to go with my home decor &#8211; that rustic grey has a bit of heather to it and is so pretty in person!</p>
<p>I held two strands of yarn together for this pattern to make the crochet potholders EVEN thicker &#8211; no way was I going to burn my hands on those hot pots coming out of the oven! I made one potholder each in the <a href="http://shrsl.com/1tf72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">grey and cream colors</a> and then made a third potholder holding one strand of each color together to achieve a marled look. I love the way all three look as a set.</p>
<p>I highly recommend using cotton yarn for this pattern &#8211; <a href="http://shrsl.com/1tf72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Re-Up</a> is a wonderful option due to the color choice and the price point ($1.99 per skein!) but other cotton yarns would work too. Just make sure to stay away from acrylic or primarily polyester yarns to be sure hot pots and pans don&#8217;t melt the fibers. Cotton also performs better than other fibers when wet should you encounter a spill!</p>

<p>Crochet Cactus Coasters with the cutest little clay pot holder you ever did see!</p>
<p>I loved making this little set of crochet cacti coasters for drippy drinks in the summer &#8211; they&#8217;re so stylish and trendy right now! The crochet pattern is easy to follow and they&#8217;re even cuter stored in the little pot holder.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><strong>SWEATER PATTERNS I LOVE (&amp; you should too)</strong></h3>

<h3><strong>The Yarn</strong></h3>
<p>I used my favorite cotton yarn for this pattern, <a href="https://amzn.to/2MPhCMX" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton</a> for the coaster base and some mini skeins of yarn from their <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1125745&amp;u=1700448&amp;m=72611&amp;urllink=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elionbrand%2Ecom%2Fdiyarn%2Ehtml&amp;afftrack=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">DIYarn collection</a> for the accents. You could make this pattern with acrylic yarn too (like <a href="https://amzn.to/2t6GSW0" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Vanna&#8217;s Choice</a>) but the cotton yarn will be much more absorbent for drinks that sweat &#8211; so keep that in mind when you&#8217;re choosing yarns!</p>
<p>If you haven&#8217;t tried the 24/7 Cotton yarn before, this is a great place to start! It&#8217;s a mercerized cotton so it&#8217;s got great shine and a really smooth feel when working with it. It holds up really well to wear and comes in 24 of the most stunning colors! I&#8217;ve used it for lots of other projects like my <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/parisian-tunisian-top/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Parisian Tunisian Top</a> and my entire collection of <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/christmas-traditions-ornament-cal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">25 Christmas Ornaments</a>!</p>

<p><strong>Pattern Notes</strong></p>
<p>-Cactus coasters are worked in the round in one piece. Spikes are embroidered and pink flower is made separately &amp; sewn on.</p>
<p>-Embroidery will show on the back of your coaster but you can hide it by crocheting another coaster piece and sewing together for a double-thick coaster or just storing them in your pot with wrong sides together so that your good side is showing from all angles.</p>
<p>-Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.</p>

<p>You know how you indulge in a pint of ice cream and after about two bites your fingers are freezing? Kind of ruins the ice cream experience, right?</p>
<p>I would always grab a dish towel to wrap around my pint, trying to battle the frozen-finger syndrome. It never worked too well because the towel was cumbersome and too big for my little pint. It just wasn&#8217;t as effective as I&#8217;d liked.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2631" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/coozie-1.jpg" alt="" width="2422" height="3590" srcset="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/coozie-1.jpg 1382w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/coozie-1-101x150.jpg 101w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/coozie-1-202x300.jpg 202w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/coozie-1-768x1138.jpg 768w, https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/coozie-1-691x1024.jpg 691w" sizes="(max-width: 2422px) 100vw, 2422px" /></p>
<p>The other night I had a few bites of my favorite dairy-free ice cream, and while I was in the middle of crocheting another project- it dawned on me. Why don&#8217;t I just crochet a solution to this problem.</p>
<p>About 20 minutes later, the crochet ice cream coozie was born! This coozie will fit any pint of ice cream &#8211; no matter the flavor.</p>
<p>This pattern is super beginner friendly, using only basic stitches. Everybody who eats ice cream needs one!</p>

<p>My great grandmother Betty was, above all, a seamstress. She made clothes of all shapes and sizes, but her favorite thing to sew were gowns. She made all kinds of fancy dresses for all different occasions, and even took a class in making wedding gowns.</p>
<p>So when I was deciding what part of her life I wanted to draw inspiration from for this trivet, I thought of her many flowing, ruffled handmade gowns. I wanted this trivet to resemble the detail and feminine flair that her gowns always had.</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yz8sswX6Bcs/V31c2jwrXiI/AAAAAAAAJhU/4acNpPHN538iwm2sEoH3CCeZa0YiCxmjQCK4B/s1600/trivet%2B5.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/trivet5.jpg" width="640" height="398" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>Enter, the wiggle stitch! You don&#8217;t need experience with this stitch to make this trivet, it is just a series of double crochets. Neat, huh?!</p>
<p>Basically you first create a trellis or mesh and then work stitches on the bars of the mesh back and forth. This makes the stitches stand up tall, giving a bit of lift to the trivet.</p>
<p>I wanted this trivet to have loads of texture so that when you set something hot on it, it would allow air to circulate and cool the bottom of your pot or pan &#8211; avoiding scorching your table!</p>
<p>PATTERN<br />
Materials:<br />
-Cotton yarn, I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in white, lilac, mint, rose, and pink<br />
-Size H 5mm crochet hook<br />
-Tapestry needle</p>
<p><b>The Trellis:</b><br />
Using any color (I used lilac), Ch 62<br />
Row 1: Dc in the 7th st from hook, *Ch 2, skip 2, DC in next, repeat from * across, Ch 4, turn<br />
Rows 2-18: *Dc, Ch 2, skip 2, repeat from * across, CH 4, turn<br />
Row 19: *Dc, Ch 2, skip 2, repeat from * across, finish off, weave ends</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jUTeZjwWQ8Q/V31aWFmTQAI/AAAAAAAAJgw/P62VXyspGysBSDPSwRHlhWOeQwdwiKhOACK4B/s1600/trivet%2B1.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/trivet1.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p><b>Ruffles (wiggle stitch):</b><br />
Find the center of your trellis: starting at the top left corner, count to the right 10 &#8220;bars&#8221; and down 10 &#8220;bars&#8221;<br />
Round 1: Join white yarn to this center bar, Ch 3, 4 Dc on this bar.<br />
Follow the graph below in a counter clockwise direction, beginning with the top black arrow. Only work one color or round of stitches at a time, working 5 Dc over each bar indicated.<br />
(The light blue lines indicate the trellis below your stitches. Each different color in the graph represents a different round of stitches.)</p>
<p><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tGumvnViKWY/V31aJGNXOlI/AAAAAAAAJgo/IYuaZGXSuvg3SIa5uehv5eBE7jgyiEh_wCK4B/s1600/grid.jpg"><img class="aligncenter" src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/grid.jpg" width="640" height="636" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>Your first round, the center blue bars, should look like this:</p>

<div style="text-align: left;">Slip stitch to the first Dc to join this round.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">Rounds 2-5: Continue in the same manner, working 5 Dc over each bar indicated on the graph above.</div>

<p>Again, inspired by my great grandmother Betty, for who this series is named we continue with the Summer Kitchen Series! If you haven&#8217;t seen them, check out the coasters (<a href="https://www.sewrella.com/2016/06/bettys-coasters-summer-kitchen-series.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>), bumpy scrubby dishcloth (<a href="https://www.sewrella.com/2016/06/bettys-bumpy-scrubby-dishcloth-summer.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>), and the marbled oven mitt (<a href="https://www.sewrella.com/2016/06/bettys-marbled-oven-mitt-summer-kitchen.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>). My grandmother would have loved this fun, whimsical harlequin stitch, it&#8217;s almost as playful as she was!</p>
<p>I followed the video tutorial below to learn the stitch &#8211; when you get to Rows 2-20 you&#8217;ll need to follow this video. I could write out all the steps to this stitch, but it&#8217;s really best explained in the video &#8211; I&#8217;d hate for your placemat to end up wonky because you skipped watching the harlequin stitch professional!</p>

<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<p>I have the third installment of my Summer Kitchen Series for you all!</p>
<div></div>
<div>In case you missed the first two installments of the Kitchen Series using Lion Brand cotton yarns find them <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/2016/06/bettys-coasters-summer-kitchen-series.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> {coasters} and <a href="https://www.sewrella.com/2016/06/bettys-bumpy-scrubby-dishcloth-summer.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> {bumpy scrubby dishcloth}.</p>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-19t9FHFbqas/V2gokZu_KPI/AAAAAAAAJUU/GlWc5RoTbmkafLyj9Sc5Hm1GL9ejeaitwCK4B/s1600/oven%2Bmitt.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/ovenmitt.jpg" width="640" height="424" border="0" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IlLdhOC8tuA/V2gnlPoMdFI/AAAAAAAAJT4/s3PzG6GCRIIoG31OmijJw8EHg8PFlEDigCK4B/s1600/oven%2Bmitt%2B1.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/ovenmitt1.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
</div>
<div>It&#8217;s a really fun oven mitt with a marbled effect &#8211; this is achieved by crocheting 3 different colored strands together at once. You could use 3 strands of the same color for a solid oven mitt. This mitt works up so quickly and the best part? It could double as a bath mitt!</div>
<div></div>
<div>Be sure to use cotton yarn and the same hook size that I use (an L 8mm hook) so that you get a very tight stitch. This may be a bit uncomfortable to crochet as working tight stitches with 3 strands feels different from stitching along normally, but it is essential to this oven mitt protecting from the heat of the oven.</div>
<div></div>
<div>To protect further against a hot pan, line this mitt with a thick fabric or quilt batting. Although, this pattern creates a thick crochet oven mitt so you should be just fine.</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5rZNqIHHSM4/V2gnocvwGTI/AAAAAAAAJUA/kZkLnOdCFs4bpV6Lcy6UGdgdpNyPxySsgCK4B/s1600/oven%2Bmitt%2B2.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/ovenmitt2.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VRzzn_tS714/V2gnrPGOISI/AAAAAAAAJUI/XcC012qJCjAEb4e5C4bC0nj543KOjPCSwCK4B/s1600/oven%2Bmitt%2B4.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/ovenmitt4.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a>&nbsp;</p>
</div>
</div>
<div>As far as sizing, this mitt is a bit of a slimmer fit, fitting snuggly on an adult woman&#8217;s hand. I created this pattern a bit smaller because I hate when an oven mitt slips off &#8211; what good does it do protecting against a hot oven while slipping and sliding? No good, I tell ya!</div>
<div></div>
<div>Make this mitt for your own kitchen or give it as a housewarming or hostess gift with a batch of cookies!</div>
</div>

<p>Hi friends!</p>
<p>If you missed my last post (the first Summer Kitchen Series installment) on Betty&#8217;s Crochet Coasters, and all of the wonderfulness that was my great grandmother (after whom this series is named), see that HERE!</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4GDwLCSUbMA/V2KslOZhhzI/AAAAAAAAJSs/LiJyAjQLnR0BJCnbZK_FjIluOGatwTj1gCK4B/s1600/dishcloth%2B5.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/dishcloth5.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YwWeGLe8ih0/V2KshFCnX1I/AAAAAAAAJSk/chweS6N2NHEbw_tGyYfRpAuMDWCqfSYpwCK4B/s1600/dishcloth%2B2.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/dishcloth2.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>As for the next installment of my Summer Kitchen Series, I have a really easy &amp; fun dishcloth for ya! You can never have enough dishcloths in my house, being that we cook at home most of the time &#8211; things are always needing a good scrub!</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pE-vR6m7Kvk/V2Ksr5ByyvI/AAAAAAAAJS0/9WixS6F9b4cpVuc2u7wpn6j-gnlRVUVSwCK4B/s1600/dishcloth%2B4.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/dishcloth4.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4dsDg_q93l0/V2KsvSZ4tSI/AAAAAAAAJS8/Nxyy7IMDZdE8dNgv5Mg9ivkz5055Zi16QCK4B/s1600/dishcloth%2B1.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/dishcloth1.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>I love this cloth because it uses a waffle stitch, so it has an ultra ribbed texture to it (thus, the &#8220;bumpy scrubby&#8221;) &#8211; great for catching gunk when cleaning up. And I purposely made these a bit smaller than a traditional tea towel, really more the size of a washcloth. I don&#8217;t like using big, cumbersome towels for scrubbing in the kitchen. I like a little handy towel, so this guy is just the ticket!</p>
<p>And of course, because this cloth isn&#8217;t just any old cloth, it&#8217;s part of my series inspired by my amazing great grandmother, it needed some pizazz. Just a nice finishing touch to really make this guy beautiful as well as utilitarian &#8211; a simple, pretty border would complete things just perfectly!</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1X1DJ6xy7jg/V2KszuziaZI/AAAAAAAAJTE/UpIqHrItJyEqAV1Ecu2IXiIyhjqhb-ZIACK4B/s1600/dishcloth%2B3.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/dishcloth3.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>Get going on this little guy and clean with something beautiful!</p>

<p>I&#8217;d like to tell you about someone very special to me.</p>
<p>My great-grandmother was a simple woman. She loved family, sewing, and her cats without much need for anything else. She was incredibly feminine, never visiting with company without her &#8220;face on.&#8221; She was a homemaker, taking care of her kids, their kids, and their kids for her entire life &#8211; and she loved every minute of it. She was gracious and delicate, a proper lady. She always wore jewelry &#8211; beaded necklaces, dainty little earrings, and her uber-gorgeous wedding rings. She was a fabulous cook, often making things in a traditional, simple, 50s era style. She had a tiny kitchen but never once complained &#8211; she still cranked out Christmas dinner with ease.</p>
<p>She was the kindest, most honest &amp; loving soul. She was the kind of woman I hope to be.</p>
<p>So when I was thinking up a summer series, I decided that a kitchen collection inspired by this wonderful woman. With feminine colors (as chosen by my lovely readers in a poll last month!) and simple, delicate design.</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jXA_WkWh-DA/V1sOtCtP_6I/AAAAAAAAJQ0/Hvd9NqXpikkqMJlqHWeQW88s4e7p1Rm-gCK4B/s1600/IMG_5666-2.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/IMG_5666-2.jpg" width="426" height="640" border="0" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k3x9GY9GHBg/V1sONGdkyoI/AAAAAAAAJQM/oSfw-yPRPzcDXG-okBCNZbpJ0Gb4JwhyQCK4B/s1600/IMG_5659-2.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/IMG_5659-2.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>These coasters are the first of 6 pieces that make up the Summer Kitchen Series, all named for my great-grandmother Betty. Be sure to keep checking back for more kitchen goodies!</p>
<p>See the handy video tutorial below, because I love ya.</p>
<p><center><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/A7uz3iIuh0E" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></center>Without further ado, here are my Betty&#8217;s Coasters!</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zDsQ5Uh63Yg/V1sORKw30nI/AAAAAAAAJQc/qnUqK-16c3MgyB_rK8xj-pnZkFYFUHKDACK4B/s1600/IMG_5678-2.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/IMG_5678-2.jpg" width="640" height="454" border="0" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C80R3xREqeM/V1sOQwWYmnI/AAAAAAAAJQY/DilZh3P1SOAHUCSVpWk_aywTTcerGLQ5ACK4B/s1600/IMG_5677-2.jpg"><img src="https://www.sewrella.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/IMG_5677-2.jpg" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<p>PATTERN:<br />
Materials<br />
-Cotton yarn: I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in Lilac, Rose, Mint, and White (1 skein will make about 6 coasters)<br />
-Size H 5mm crochet hook<br />
-Tapestry needle</p>
<p>Begin with a magic ring, Ch 2<br />
Round 1: 10 Dc inside the ring, sl st to join, Ch 2<br />
Round 2: 2 Dc in each st around, sl st to join, Ch 2 (20 sts)<br />
Round 3: 2 Dc in each st around, sl st to join, Ch 2 (40 sts)<br />
Round 4: (Dc, Ch 2, 2 Dc) in first st, skip a st, Sc in next st, skip a st, *(2 Dc, Ch 2, 2 Dc) in next st, skip a st, Sc in next st, skip a st, repeat from * around 8 more times, sl st to join, finish off, weave ends<br />
-With accent color (I used white) surface slip stitch between rounds 3 and 4, sl st to join, finish off, weave ends<br />
[To surface slip stitch, begin with a slip knot at the back of the work. Insert your hook where you want your first st to lie and pull the slip knot to the front of the work, holding the working yarn at the back. Insert your hook in between the next two sts, yarn over (hook and yarn should be behind the work), pull up a loop to the front of the work, and pull through the loop on your hook to complete the slip stitch. Continue around.</p>
<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<p>Don&#8217;t forget to PIN this project to your Pinterest boards so you don&#8217;t lose it!</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Make lots of these in all different colors! They are a great stash buster project and I can&#8217;t wait to show you what else will be coming up for this Summer Kitchen Series!</p>
<p>Til then,</p>
