Today, the Bake Shop Blanket is finished! Yay!

I am so thrilled to debut this afghan with you all in all its finished glory. I’ve been releasing one square each week for a total of 12 squares and today I’ll be showing you all how I finished off this blanket with the border!

I decided on a simple granny stitch border with a scalloped edge – something simple and classic to let those bake shop motifs really shine.

Below I have links listed for all of the individual squares in this series as well as a link to my posts about how many squares you need to make for my throw size blanket and my post on joining your squares.

  • Ice Cream Granny Square
  • Cookie Granny Square
  • Cupcake Granny Square
  • Donut Granny Square
  • Cherry Pie Granny Square
  • Waffle Granny Square
  • Coffee Cup Granny Square
  • Tea Mug Granny Square
  • Strawberry Granny Square
  • Birthday Cake Granny Square
  • Candy Granny Square
  • Jam Jar Granny Square
  • Finishing Up Part 1: What squares you need to make
  • Finishing Up Part 2: Joining your squares

Here in this post I’d like to go over a few details regarding this blanket that I haven’t mentioned elsewhere:

For this project, in the throw size as I am making, I used lots of Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn –

  • 6 skeins each of Pink, Mint, and Chocolate
  • 8 skeins of white
  • 2 skeins of beige
  • 2 skeins of toffee
  • 1 skein of cranberry
The final measurements for this blanket are about 4 ft. by 4 ft. I chose to make mine a square as that’s the shape blanket I prefer (I’m short and like a good amount of width and length). You can definitely assemble this blanket using as many squares as you like in whatever shape suits you! Using my methods for joining and border should still work out splendidly.

Without further ado, here is the handy video tutorial on the border!

PATTERN:
Materials:
-Worsted weight yarn (I used Vanna’s Choice in White, Mint, Chocolate, and Pink)
-Size H 5mm crochet hook
-Tapestry needle

Granny stitch border:
Join white yarn to any of the 4 corners of your joined blanket, Ch 2, 2 Dc, Ch 3, 3 Dc, Ch 1, *3 Dc in next Ch space, Ch 1, repeat from * across until you reach the next corner of your blanket [these are side clusters], (3 Dc, Ch 3, 3 Dc) in corner Ch space [this is a corner cluser], keep working side clusters of 3 Dc, Ch 1 along all sides and corner clusters of 3 Dc, Ch 3, 3 Dc in each corner, sl st to join, finish off.
Join chocolate yarn and repeat.
Join mint yarn and repeat.
Join pink yarn and repeat.
Join white yarn and repeat. Do not finish off after working another round in white.

Scallop edge:
In white, sl st into next st, sl st into Ch 3 corner space, Ch 2, 6 Dc in corner Ch space, *skip the next st, sl st into next st (should be the center of 3 Dc cluster from round below), skip the next st, 5 Dc in Ch space, repeat from * all the way around.
In all corners of the blanket you should work 7 Dc in the Ch 3 space instead of 5 Dc.
sl st to join, finish off, weave all ends from the border rounds
