Hi friends!
Today I am debuting a project that’s been on my mind for several months now:
A bake shop granny square blanket
A what?
You heard right!
My concept here is to modernize the granny square. I’ve made tons of em, and so have you (I’m sure).
So instead of the classic increasing rows from the center in a cute little flower pattern, in the center of this square will be a scrumptious ice cream cone!
This is only the first of a series of granny squares, each with a different sweet center. Cookies, cupcakes, who knows where this will take us.
But isn’t the ride exciting? Good.
Let me back up a bit and explain where the concept for this little cutie comes from:
As you lovely readers may have noticed in my other posts, I’m expecting a little person!
He should be here sometime in the end of May and boy have the cravings been kicking in full force.
Chief among them? Sweets. I’ve tried to be good, I’ve tried to refrain. But sometimes you just NEED a double scoop of mint chocolate chip, ya know?
Enter: the ice cream cone granny square.
I’m not sure if this is helping or hurting me. Either way it’s a cute project. So there.
Hopefully, when I’m done with this project it will be a visual representation of my pregnancy and a sweet reminder of this exciting time.
I can’t wait to snuggle my little man under this blanket of sweet treats!
I’d also like to mention that the ice cream cone square alone would make a darling blanket. Change up the “flavors” of ice cream with different colors of yarn, different “toppings” with buttons, beads, sewn embellishments, and you’ve got a “31 flavors” blanket!
…Or 40 flavors. Or 86 flavors. I’m not the boss of you.
The written pattern is below, as well as a video tutorial! There is one tricky area when starting the granny square portion of this project so I really encourage watching the video for help. I tried to explain as best I could in writing but for this one the visual really clears up that confusion.
