This crochet plushy unicorn is named Lola and she is the snuggliest, cuddliest, most squish-tastic friend ever!
Can you believe Lola is a made by simple single crochets and easy amigurumi techniques? She’s ridiculously easy to make, even if it’s your first time crocheting amigurumi. If you know how to single crochet and make increases and decreases, you can make your very own Lola!
I knew I needed a plushy animal to match my Crochet Rainbow Stripes Baby Blanket that I made several months ago for my little guy Parker. When I started to brainstorm what kind of animal to make, I knew I wanted to use the rainbow motif (I had lots of all those bright colors of Bernat Blanket Yarn leftover from the blanket), and what better animal to make than a rainbow unicorn?!
I love using Bernat Blanket Yarn, especially this Brights line they’ve come out with! It’s got an unbelievable plushy feel with unmatched fuziness that makes for the absolute perfect cuddly crochet friend. Just think of all the stuffies you could make with this stuff – follow any small size amigurumi pattern using this yarn and a larger hook and now you’ve got an oversized fuzzy friend! Grab your Bernat Blanket Yarn HERE.
I striped the rainbow colors of yarn on the torso and the mane in the same order as the blanket’s stripes so that everything would coordinate nicely and I’m so pleased with the result! Speaking of that mane, I used a crochet loop stitch but you could easily substitute this for fringe tied onto the head and torso. I do, however recommend the loop stitch because it is very sturdy and will hold up well to my energetic one year old playing with her for years to come.
On another technical note, be sure to check out my 5 favorite amigurumi tips and tricks video HERE featuring some of Lola’s pieces and some special things I did to finish her up nicely!
Lola is almost as big as Parker is now and he’s 15 months old – that’s a big unicorn! Lola will grow with him and be the perfect size for carrying around as Parker grows. I can’t wait to see the adventures Parker and Lola take together!

–Scissors
–Stitch marker (or a scrap of worsted weight yarn!)

Pattern notes:
-Work in continuous rounds; do not join at the end of each row. Simply place your stitch marker in the last stitch of each round and move it up as you move on to each new round.
-Work with loose tension during first 3 Rounds of each piece (when beginning with a magic ring). If your tension is too tight, you will have cone shapes instead of round, spherical shapes.
-If you make the matching Rainbow Stripes Baby Blanket (free pattern here!) you’ll need one more skein of white yarn and no other additional skeins!
