Crochet Kitty Family

May 2, 2017 by Ashleigh

MEOW! & hey there kitty lovers!

I’ve got the cutest little feline family EVER on the blog today. Like I really don’t know how I’ve gone all my days without them.

This little family is made up of a mama cat, a daddy cat, and their baby kitten. What I love so much about this little family is that you can easily change the colors of the yarn to make totally different looking kitties! Try grey and black instead of orange and white for that little tabby kitten, or try a whole family of black cats for Halloween – the possibilities are endless!

I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice for this project, and it gave the perfect finished product! Vanna’s is my favorite worsted weight yarn, partially for it’s softness and wide array of color options but mostly for it’s thickness! Worsted weight yarn can take all shapes and thicknesses, some are thin like baby yarn and some are really chunky. I love Vanna’s because it is just a bit thicker than most worsted weights and works so well for amigurumi projects like these cats! (slightly thicker yarn = less gapping between stitches = no polyfil stuffing showing through!)

Lion Brand has even put together a Kitty Family Yarn Kit for this little set, so you can order all the yarn you need with one click on their website – so easy! You’ll also get a printout of the pattern below along with your yarn, shipped right to your door. So grab your kit HERE!

You may notice in the pattern below that I use a B crochet hook for the mama cat. I prefer a tiny hook because it eliminates gaps between the stitches almost completely. If you don’t have a B or just don’t prefer working with such a tiny hook, you are more than welcome to size up some (I used a D for the daddy cat and still didn’t have much gapping)

I hope you enjoy these little cats, they are the perfect thing for kids toys or a gift for that crazy cat lover in your life!

Weave the yarn through the neckline stitches over the arm.

Continue whipstitching across the front of the dress. This will create perfectly fitted arm holes. Make sure not to make those arm holes too tight or loose.

Thanks for the pattern, they are adorable!

Is Vanna’s Choice the yarn you put in the Chocolate Bunny Happy Yarn Mail Box? I loved working with it. Compared to the Red Heart Super Saver I usually use it was so much softer.

I would dearly love to download the pattern but can’t with all those ads. I crochet for a charity.
