Christmas Tree Kawaii Cuddler

Hi guys! I’m so excited to introduce you to some of the cutest crochet Kawaii cuddlers I’ve ever seen from 3amgracedesigns! I hope you love this pattern and make them for your Christmas decor & kids toys.

Hi! We’re Donna & Michaelene! We design Kawaii Cuddlers and Corner-to- Corner (C2C) projects for our website 3amgracedesigns. Donna launched 3amgracedesigns in January of this year and Michaelene joined mid-year offering her attention to detail for the Big Bang Theory project. Together we love dreaming up yarntastic goodness to share with our fellow crochet enthusiasts!

Our Christmas Tree Kawaii Cuddler ties together both our love for the Christmas season and the cuteness of kawaii faces on ordinary objects. The combination resulted in this adorable kawaii Christmas tree.

We used Hobby Lobby “I Love This Yarn” for this project, but any worsted weight yarn will produce an adorable result!

 

PATTERN

Materials:
-Size H (5.0mm) Crochet Hook
-Worsted Weight Yarn in green, brown, and yellow.
-Small scraps of pink yarn for cheeks
-Small scraps in desired ornament colors
-Pair of 18mm Black Safety Eyes
-Poly-fil Stuffing
-Tapestry Needle
-Craft glue or hot glue gun (optional)
-Black puff paint or embroidery floss (optional)

Ch – Chain
SC – Single Crochet

Tree Trunk
Make 2.
Row 1 – Along Row 53 of the Christmas Tree Body, skip 14 stitches. Into the 15th stitch, SC
9 across. This will leave 14 unworked stitches on each side of the trunk (9)

Row 8 – Inc, SC7, Inc (11)
Row 9 – SC across (11)

Cheeks
Make 2.
With pink yarn Ch5, 2SC into 2nd Ch from hook, SC2, 2SC in  last chain. On opposite side on
chain, SC2, Sl St into first stitch. (8)

Star
Make 2.
Round 1 – With yellow yarn, MR, 10HDC, sl st to first HDC (10)
Round 2 – ch1, DC into next st, ch2, SC into side loop of 2nd chain and DC (See picture), sl st into next stitch in MR. This will make one point on the star. Repeat four more times to create five points. Sl st into last st of MR.
FO, weave in ends.

Small Ornaments
Round 1 – MR, 6SC (6)

Alternative to Safety Eyes
{Eyes are worked in a continuous round, do not join}

You can also embroider or use puff paint to create
sleepy eyes like this:

Assembly
-Place safety eyes between rows 5 & 6 from the bottom of Christmas Tree body (not
including the trunk) roughly 12 stitches apart.
-Sew or glue cheeks in place.
-With black puff paint or embroidery floss, create desired mouth.
-Sew or glue ornaments in desired locations.
-Align Christmas Tree halves so ends of rows match. With wrong sides facing each other, single crochet around both pieces to join together. If you want your edging to match – make sure you change colors as you SC around. Stuff with Poly-Fil prior to completing stitching. Make sure you work in an anti-clockwise direction so your stitches face forward.
-Sew or glue star in place, making sure the front and back stars line up correctly. Glue or sew the bottom two points to the tree. Whipstitch around the top three points, stuffing with Poly-Fil prior to completing stitching.
