It’s Friday – Bake Shop Day!
Today is bittersweet, it is the last of the 12 squares in this series! That’s right, this little jam jar makes 12 (plus the bonus traditional granny square made to match this series which you can find HERE).
Don’t worry though, friends – next week I’ll be posting about how to join these squares with a simple, fun method and soon after that we will be talking border and finishing! There is still a bit more Bake Shop in your future.
I wanted to make the last square in this series a jam jar because of my own deep-running love for homemade jam. I always make my own from whatever berries I can get my hands on (I even made my own homemade triple berry jam favors for my baby shower!) so I knew that jam had to make the cut.
What is sweeter? Nothin’ I tell ya, NOTHIN’.
Here’s the handy video tutorial!
-Worsted weight yarn (I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Pink, Cranberry, and White)
-Size H 5mm crochet hook

Begin with a slip knot in cranberry (or your choice of color for jam), Ch 12
Row 1: Hdc in the 2nd Ch from hook, Hdc in each st across (10 sts total), Ch 2, turn
Rows 2-8: Hdc in each st across, Ch 2, turn
Color change to white & proceed with “lid”
Row 9: Hdc in each st across, Ch 2, turn
Row 10: Hdc in each st across, do not Ch or turn
Working down the left side of your work, Sc into the ends of rows 10 then 9, turn your work where you’re looking at it upside down
Row 11: Working only in the front loops of row 9, *skip a st, 5 Dc in next st, sl st in next st, repeat from * twice more
Sc back up the right side of the work (into the end of rows 9 and 10), finish off, weave ends
^^^for any confusion here, please consult the video tutorial above!
Round 1: With new color, sl st into top right corner of lid, all in the same st: CH 2, 2 DC, CH 3, 3 DC, CH 1, skip 3 sts, 3 DC in next st, CH 1, *3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC, CH 1, skip 3 sts, 3 DC in next st, CH 1*, repeat from * twice more forming a square, sl st to beginning CH 2
Rounds 2-3: Continue in this same manner – in corners 3 DC, CH 3, 3 DC, CH 1 and in all other CH spaces 3 DC, CH 1, finish off, weave ends
There ya have it! Be sure to watch out for the next post in this series, Joining Your Squares, next week!
