Spirit of Giving here, your friendly neighborhood Yarn Hero – ready to spread holiday cheer with yarn in hand!
My super powers include crocheting, drinking massive amounts of eggnog coffee, and warming hearts & hands with yarny goodness!
Come along with me and learn about a super fun project that Lion Brand has put together – that begins today!
That’s right, it’s called Yarn Heroes and it’s quite possibly the most AWESOME event that I have the pleasure to be a part of.
Lion Brand has assembled a team of Yarn Heroes – several other amazing knit & crochet bloggers are included (Like Moogly, Make & Do Crew, Mama in a Stitch, All About Ami, and so many others) – on a quest to help those in need… via yarn!
Each yarn hero has designed a super special pattern that is perfect for gift giving or (ideally) charitable donation.
There are 15 Yarn Heroes in all, so that’s 15 free patterns for you to make & give this season.
As if all of that isn’t enough, now through December 15 use code YARNHEROES2016 on the Lion Brand website to get $5 off any purchase of $20 or more! Doing good and getting discounts? I like the sounds of that!
~I’m just so excited, I can’t contain it!~
If you’ve been following along here on my blog, you know all about my 25 Days of Christmas Traditions Crochet-a-Long that will be wrapping up next week (thus my super hero name being The Spirit of Giving, hehe!).
We’ve been busy making 25 Christmas ornaments each corresponding to a holiday tradition. Some of the traditions are the expected cookie baking and snowman building, while others involve things like “a random act of kindness” or “cheering up a Grinch-y person in your life.”
Basically, you KNOW I am 100% all about doing good for your fellow man, radiating positivity, and sharing love – especially during this time of year!
So when Lion Brand approached me about being a Yarn Hero and encouraging all of you talented makers to knit or crochet for charity this season – I jumped on it!
What better way to get involved in your local community?
My charity pattern is one I’m very happy to tell you about – Super Mittens!
These fingerless gloves are so easy to make, work up fast, and don’t even use an entire skein of yarn. They will keep hands warm during the brisk winter season and they are the perfect quick project to donate!
{Also be sure to lookout for this pattern post next week for a super special giveaway!}
Crocheting for charity really helps not only the person receiving the goods, but the person making the goods! Crocheting for charity gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling – that you are giving back to your community in such a positive way, and thus making the world a little bit happier, warmer place! And if that doesn’t warm your heart, I don’t know what will.
Think of all the places you can send these babies – homeless shelters, women’s shelters, veteran’s hospitals, schools, really anywhere! I can’t think of a place that couldn’t use a good pair of Super Mittens.
I’ll be sending mine along to the Warm Up America Foundation, an organization that is always accepting knit and crochet items to distribute among the women’s shelters, nursing homes, the homeless and others in need. It’s a wonderful community of people who want to do good & I’m honored to be a part of their work!
It’s also super easy to donate – CLICK HERE for their Frequently Asked Questions page, including the address where they’d like donations sent!
Head on over to the Lion Brand Yarn Heroes page and see all of the amazing folks involved with this project and their charity patterns!
And keep up with everything Yarn Heroes throughout the campaign (now through December 15) here on the Lion Brand Notebook!
Among all of the hustle and bustle of the season, set aside an evening to make something for someone you don’t know, donate it, and take pride in the fact that… YOU ARE A YARN HERO TOO!
{Also be sure to send your charity makes into [email protected] by December 15 to enter for your chance to win $250 worth of yarn donated to the cause of your choice!}
