I’m so excited to introduce you all to the first member of my brand new Sewrella’s Guest Designer Program here on the blog – Breann! She’s full of beautiful ideas and has SO many fun projects over on her blog, be sure to check them out. Breann is the first of many inspiring designers that will be contributing a curated selection of patterns this year through this new program and I can’t wait to show you all the fun that’s in store!

Hello! I’m Breann and my blog is Hooked on Homemade Happiness where I share mostly crochet patterns with the occasional DIY and mom life post thrown in. I love to crochet and share fun and modern clothing and accessories.

I wanted a winter accessory that’s colorful, cute, and fun. And this hat definitely fits the bill! By this time of year I’m tired of being bundled up and am ready for some bright colors in my wardrobe. Since the majority of the hat is cream and gray, pretty much any contrasting color would look cute. If you wanted to stick with more neutrals, I think a black band and pom would look great.

This hat is super easy and quick to make. You can have it whipped up in an afternoon! I used Loops & Threads Charisma yarn. It’s one of my favorite bulky (category 5) yarns because of how soft and squishy it is. Plus, it’s easy on the wallet which is always a win. But any bulky yarn would work perfectly for this hat.

PATTERNS I LOVE (& you should too)

1. Crochet Homemaker Gingham Throw / 2. Crochet Everyday Cardigan / 3. Crochet Le Nuage Wrap/Triangle Scarf

PATTERN

  • Get the ad-free, large print, printable PDF pattern from Etsy HERE.
  • PIN this pattern to your Pinterest boards for later HERE.
  • Add this pattern to your Ravelry queue HERE.

Materials:

-Loops & Threads Charisma in Off White, Charcoal, and Fuchsia (1 skein each)

-L/8.0 mm hook

-Yarn needle

-Scissors

Dimensions/Gauge:

Width across the brim: 10”

Length (not including pom pom): 9.5”

Abbreviations:

Ch – chain

Sl st – slip stitch

Sc- single crochet

Sc blo – single crochet back loop only (instead of inserting hook into both top loops, insert hook into the back top loop and work a single crochet)

2 dc cl – 2 double crochet cluster (yarn over, insert hook in to stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook)

Notes:

-hat is worked from the bottom up, starting with the brim

-when working the off white and charcoal rounds I did not fasten off the yarn; the yarn was carried up to the next round

-rounds are joined

– level is easy+, must be very familiar with basic crochet stitches

Pattern:

In Fuchsia ch 7

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across (6 sc)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc blo in each stitch across (6 sc blo)

Repeat row 2 to row 37

Bring both ends of the brim together, sew them together with sc

Now you will work around the top of the brim

Round 1: Ch 1, sc around the brim, working 1 sc in the end of each row, join to first sc with sl st (37 sc)

Change to Off White

Round 2: ch 3, *skip 2 stitches, (2 dc cl, ch 2, 2 dc cl) in next stitch* repeat from * to * around, skip last stitch, join to top of first ch 3 with sl st (24 clusters)

Change to Charcoal (carry up the off white)

Round 3: ch 3, *(2 dc cl, ch 2, 2 dc cl) all in next ch 2 space*, repeat from * to * around, join to top of first ch 3 with sl st (24 clusters)

Change to Off White

Round 4: repeat round 3

Change to Charcoal

Round 5: repeat round 3

Change to Off White

Round 6: repeat round 3

Change to Charcoal

Round 7: repeat round 3

Change to Off White

Round 8: repeat round 3

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. Use your yarn needle and weave the long tail in and out around the top of the last round. Pull end to cinch the top closed. Sew the top closed. Fasten off and weave in all your ends.

Add your bright pom pom!

I hope you love your Color Pop Striped Beanie! Please share your finished product with me, I’d love to see it! You can find me on Instagram and Facebook!

Happy making!

-Breann
