Hi everyone! Here with the next episode of my new series, Stitch Dictionary – the place where you can find tons of new, unique stitches to try!
For each of these stitch swatches, I’ll be working up an 11 x 11″ swatch in Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick in varying colors, eventually joining my swatches together to form a Stitch Dictionary Throw blanket!
Follow along and make your swatches with me.
Today’s episode is the Basketweave Stitch, a stitch that produces a very thick, warm fabric. I think this is my favorite square of the series yet, and will probably be a favorite corner of the final blanket!
My favorite thing about the basketweave stitch is its texture. It looks so complex even though really it’s just a series of double crochets – brilliant!
Watch the video to see how I make it, or just follow the written instructions below.
Ch any multiple of 4
Row 1: Dc in 4th Ch from hook and in each across, Ch 3, t
Row 2: FpDc in first 4 sts, BpDc in next 4 sts, rep across, Dc in turning ch, Ch 3, t (change direction row)
Row 3: BpDc in first 4 sts, FpDc in next 4 sts, rep across, Dc in turning ch, Ch 3, t (matching row)
Row 4: BpDc in first 4 sts, FpDc in next 4 sts, rep across, Dc in turning ch, Ch 3, t (change direction row)
Row 5: FpDc in first 4 sts, BpDc in next 4 sts, rep across, Dc in turning ch, Ch 3, t (matching row)
Repeat Rows 2-5 as written until desired length. Finish off & weave ends.

Ashleigh, it’s such a good idea to make a blanket with all these swatches … I may have to copy your idea. 🙂
